Country Information

Fulbright U.S. Scholar and ETA grantees should send scanned copies of their passport to the respective U.S. Embassy representative (Sabina Abdullayeva for ETA and Khanim Teilova for Scholars). The U.S. Embassy in Baku will request a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the participants and after receiving that letter, the grantee should apply for an Azerbaijani visa. For an updated list of all documents required to apply for an Azerbaijani visa, contact the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Washington, DC and Los Angeles.

Participants will need to go through registration within two weeks of arrival in the country. Participants may choose to stay at the hotel for the first two days, and the hotel will take care of the initial registration.

Depending on the number of days the participants are allowed to stay in Azerbaijan (although visas are issued for a year, there will be either a 90- or 180-day permission to stay each time), the grantee will work with the host universities to submit an application and necessary documents to receive local temporary residency cards to stay for the full academic year. Participants must, however, bring notarized copies of university diplomas and international passports when coming to Azerbaijan in order to obtain a temporary residency permit. Fulbright U.S. Scholars must bring a notarized copy of their marriage certificate and documents for all minor dependents (notarized birth certificates).

Alum Contacts

We invite you to contact these Fulbright alumni for questions or advice prior to your grant. They can be an excellent resource for unofficial questions – what type of clothing to bring, how to open a bank account, and more.
