Teach American Studies to Scandinavian Secondary School Teachers and Students
Three exciting and unique Fulbright Scholar awards offer opportunities for American studies specialists to give guest lectures and/or teacher training seminars at a variety of secondary schools in Scandinavia. Two Roving Scholars in American studies in Norway and one scholar in Denmark will have an unusual opportunity to interact with teachers and students, serving as a source of information on many aspects of U.S. society. In contrast to most Fulbright Scholar awards, faculty with a master’s degree are welcome to apply, provided that they have several years of teaching experience. Community college faculty are also encouraged to apply.
The Roving scholars travel to schools all over Norway for nine months, giving seminars and training sessions to teachers and students on a variety of subjects, including American literature, politics, history, film, folklore, geography and current events. The grantee to Denmark will give guest lectures for two months on a broad range of topics in American studies and consult with Danish colleagues at a commercial high school (students aged 16-19). Many of the students are the “new Danes,” who have come to Denmark from other countries. The grantee will have a matchless opportunity to provide diverse students and faculty with first hand and up-to-date information on U.S. society and contribute to cultural understanding.
