Russian Education in a European Context
The Russian Federation, the world’s largest nation, covers more than seventeen million square miles. Its population, spread from the Baltic to the Pacific, the Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea, is served by one of the largest and most famous educational systems anywhere. Challenged by the changing political, economic, and philosophical climates of the post-Soviet period, Russian universities and institutions have worked hard to maintain academic excellence while preparing the country’s population for life in a changed world. More recently, Russia has joined 45 other countries in signing the Bologna Agreement, a document that seeks to create a unified educational space from the Atlantic to the Pacific and a new center of educational power globally. To witness how this experiment will affect Russia and its relations with other European countries, consider a Fulbright grant. Applicants are welcome to conduct research, lecture, or combine both activities. The program is open to specialists from all disciplines, the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences.
