German Studies Seminar
Overview Who's Eligible Application Deadline Why Participate Award Information Application Checklist Review Criteria Notification Timeline GSS Staff

Participants in the German Studies Seminar gain a firsthand look into how Germany’s political, economic and cultural systems deal with contemporary issues. For Scholars, the engagement in substantive dialogue with German political, academic, scientific, journalistic and cultural leaders, will inform their research and teaching.

The 2010 German Studies Seminar takes place in an era of economic uncertainty. Like the United States, Germany has been severely affected by the global financial crisis. Saving banks and establishing stimulus plans to keep the economy going have put enormous pressure on its social welfare system. The bail-out plans of the German government may have saved the system, but this, along with demographic developments, may challenge the country’s social security system, employment trends and political development.

Interested scholars and professionals may visit the German Fulbright Commission Web site for more information on previous seminars.

The application deadline is Nov. 20, 2009.
