Question: Question about the language requirement: If my project will require mostly reading and my language skill there is good but my spoken is OK to get around (but not great) will that hurt?
Answer: The language you need varies with your project.  Be sure to describe to your reviewer as well as in your proposal what amount of language you'll need.  The language skills need to be commensurate with the activity being applied for.  So reading may be the most important thing and the place where many academics excel.

Question: Regarding language proficiency, I had 2.5 years Spanish in High School, one semester of German in College and 3 years French in grammar school.  I did not have to use any of this and I remember very little.  What should I put for the language proficiency part of the application?
Answer: You do not need the language proficiency report unless language is required or recommended for your particular award.  Requirements vary quite a lot.

Question: If the lecturing is in English, I presume we don’t need a language proficiency letter- right?
Answer: If the lecturing is in English and you are not applying for research that would require language, then you do not need a language proficiency report.

Question: Can I ask a colleague from Colombia to write my Spanish language proficiency report? She's not faculty from my university.
Answer: Yes, you can ask faculty from a different university to write your language proficiency report, as long as they're an instructor in that language.
