Question: Should syllabi focus on the "meat" of the course and leave out all the usual administrative stuff such as office hours and ADA accommodations?
Answer: Typically review committees like to see syllabi you've already offered.  You can leave off administrative detail in order to bring them within the space limit, but they'll want to see the real thing.  You can discuss in your project proposal how you might change the details to accommodate the new audience.

Question: Re:  syllabi--can I add comments at the top of each one regarding their suitability/adaptability?
Answer: Yes, some comment on each syllabi would be fine. Just show some sense of "this isn't Kansas anymore."

Question: I had wanted to pitch brand new courses, courses I haven't yet taught. Would that put me at a disadvantage? Would the host prefer seeing tried and true materials?
Answer: It's perfectly possible to pitch new courses, particularly if the letter of invitation expresses interest in them.  Then you just include a discussion of related courses you've taught in the past in your CV and in your proposal. Make it clear they are new and why you want to do them.

Question: The project I am applying for is classified as a research project, but the description includes "providing seminars, tutorials, and mentoring for faculty."  Can I include syllabi even though this isn't required for a research application?
Answer:  I would ask the program officer before attaching a syllabus for a research award.
