Question: My award specifies 5 months or 10 months--do I state my choice up front?
Answer: I'd consult with the program officer.  You will have to state a preference on your application, but if you are flexible on the length you should indicate that.

Question: What about the length of grant, when there are options?  Is that something I or Fulbright choose?
Answer: Grant lengths vary by award and by country.  The options as far as length, as well as possible start dates, should be spelled out in the award description.
Question: If the position description (distinguished chair position) notes that "full year awards are preferred but an award for one semester will be considered" do I hurt my chances if I apply for one semester?
Answer: It depends. Some countries really push for full year grants, but most have come to realize that may not be practical.  Talk to the program officer to see if there is a sense that one is really better than the other. Often it is not the case.
