Question: There is a space on the application to list family members that will join you. Should the presence of family in the host country also be mentioned in the application?
Answer: For listing family members - you need to say whether they will join you on the application for them to get visas, etc., but it doesn't need to be discussed in the project proposal unless it's relevant to your application - for example if you are proposing to use your spouse as your translator.
Question: Is a spouse applying for an award to go to the same country (at the same time) have any effect on the review? We both have legit research projects in the same area.
Answer: Reviewers take note of spouses applying to the same country, but each application is evaluated on its individual merits. Just make sure you don't both apply to a country that can only fund one grant. If you both are in the same field, that may make it harder for both to win a grant, but we have placed two people in American studies in the same country but different institutions before!
