Hanuman Kambli, department head, Goa College of Art-Altinho, India
Lecturing: Art, Printmaking, Painting and Drawing
February 1999-May 1999

More of Hanuman Kambli's prints can be viewed on the World Wide Web at
www.goa-art.com.

Among the 1998-99 grantees from South Asia was Hanuman Kambli, one of India's foremost printmakers. An outstanding artist, painter and teacher, Kambli spent four months lecturing on printmaking, painting and drawing at Western Michigan University. Arriving in Kalamazoo in January, the artist was inspired by the wintry landscape--an inspiration that began revealing itself in the works he created while on campus.

This visit to the United States, Kambli's first, came at an important point in his career. Having won several awards abroad, he is developing an international reputation for his work. Since 1986, his work has been exhibited in a number of countries, including Egypt, Brazil, Japan, Cuba, Germany, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Spain, Poland, Norway, Slovenia and Taiwan.

Kambli is currently teaching at the Goa College of Art in India. His biographical information and some of his prints can be viewed on the Web at http://www.goa-art.com. The site is an online gallery sponsored by Art Chamber, Galeria de Bellas Artes, and designed to educate the public about Goan art and artists.
