Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland
Research: Corporeal Transgression in Contemporary Culture: The Body and Representation in Communication
Host: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick, New Brunswick, NJ
January 2005-January 2006
I received an invitation to visit Stanford University as an Occasional Lecturer from Ewa Domanska (Ph.D.), a historian and former Fulbrighter and Kosciuszko Foundation grantee. Domanska currently teaches courses in Stanford's anthropology department.

The anthropology department is led by professor Ian Hodder who is recognized for his contribution to the development of interpretative approaches in archaeology. Having the opportunity to personally meet Hodder was a very significant experience for me, especially because I saw his books staring at me in my father's library since I was a teenager. Being able to give a face to that famously known name, was very emotional.

At Stanford, I was also invited to lunch by professor Hayden White, an extremely influential man in the development of the human sciences. It was a great honor to meet and share my opinions with him.

The Occasional Lecturer Program gave me a unique opportunity to participate in an intellectual exchange with some of the most influential representatives of human sciences. My experience with OLP at Stanford, however, was not only an intellectual journey but also an inspiring spiritual journey.
