Fulbright Campus Representatives Attend Workshop

Campus Representatives from across the United States participated in an informational workshop at the Council for International Exchange of Scholars in Washington, DC.
The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) welcomed Campus Representatives at this year's Fall Campus Representative Workshop on Friday, September 14. Representatives from across the United States traveled to CIES in Washington, DC for an all day workshop on the various Fulbright Scholar Programs available for faculty, academics and professionals. The first part of the morning included an introduction from Dr. Sabine O'Hara, the newly appointed executive director of CIES and vice-president of the Institute of International Education (IIE). Joining Dr. O'Hara in welcoming the Campus Representatives was a special guest speaker from the U.S. Department of State, Rosalind Swenson, director of the Office of Academic Exchange Programs at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Also participating in the program was David Levin, senior program manager and diversity coordinator at the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Assistant directors and program officers from all world regions and program units presented program highlights and updates for the 2008-2009 award competitions.

Campus Representatives were joined by CIES staff for lunch and had the opportunity to further discuss the opportunities available to their faculty and institutions. The day ended with a presentation from Athena Mison Fulay, higher education liaison officer, on the role of Campus Representatives and best practices in promoting Fulbright with academics.
