Fulbright Campus Representatives Attend Workshop
The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) warmly welcomed Campus Representatives at this year's Fall Campus Representative Workshop on Friday, September 14th. Representatives from across the United States traveled to the CIES office in Washington, DC for an all day workshop on the various Fulbright Scholar Programs available for faculty, academics and professionals. The first part of the morning included an introduction from the newly appointed executive director of CIES and vice-president of the Institute of International Education, Dr. Sabine O'Hara. International Fulbright Visiting Scholars Examine U.S. Legal System
One hundred and fourteen international Fulbright
Visiting Scholars from 57 countries examined the multiple layers and
jurisdictions of the U.S. legal system in the spring through "The Rule
of Law: A View from the American West," a conference sponsored by the
U.S. Department of State in Denver, Colorado.

The Fulbright/American Political Science Association
(APSA) Congressional Fellowship Program sponsored 18 participants this
year. The Fulbright/APSA Congressional Fellowship Program provides
12-month awards to grantees for the opportunity to study
Congress as a congressional fellow and staff person working full

Missouri Scholar Awarded T.S. Eliot Prize for Poems Detailing Her Fulbright Experience
Carol V. Davis' collection of poems, Into the Arms of
Pushkin, was inspired by her experiences in Russia as a Fulbright
Scholar. The collection was selected from more than 500 entries to
receive the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry sponsored by Truman State
University Press, Kirksville, Missouri. Davis received $2,000 and

Israeli and Palestinian Scholars Collaborate on Dual Narrative
Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence Dan Bar On from Israel
and Sami Adwan from Palestine spoke at the Carnegie Endowment for
International Peace in Washington, DC, earlier this year. Both
scholars are on lecturing grants at Monmouth University in New Jersey
and are co-directors of the nonprofit organization Peace Research
Institute for the Middle East (PRIME) headquartered in Beit Jalah.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Focuses on Conflict Resolution
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Edita Tahiri, from Kosovo,
conducted research at Johns Hopkins' School of Advanced International
Studies. Tahiri's research in the Department of International
Organizations and Conflict Resolution focuses on the effects of
neutral humanitarian intervention and nation building. Tahiri's vast
political background and her personal experiences have shaped her
opinions on Kosovo's uncertain international status, motivating her to

Egyptian Scholar Focuses on Improving Higher Education System
Mohsen Elmahdy Said, a Fulbright New Century
Scholar in 2005-06, has been a professor of applied mechanics
at Cairo University since 1989 and is the executive director
of the Projects Management Unit at the Ministry of Education
in Egypt. He has researched higher education reform for the
past 15 years, focusing on quality assurance and
