Fall 2006 Campus Representative Workshop Held

CREP2006
Armando Abina, Fulbright Campus Representative at San Diego Community College, discussed Fulbright opportunities available to his campus with CIES staff members.

The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) warmly welcomed Campus Representatives at this year’s fall Campus Representative Workshop on Friday, September 15. Representatives from across the United States traveled to Washington, DC, for an all day workshop on the various Fulbright Scholar Programs for faculty and professionals.

The first part of the morning included an introduction from Patti McGill Peterson, executive director of CIES and vice president of the Institute of International Education, followed by a presentation from Anne Clift Boris, senior program officer for recruitment. Anne’s presentation encompassed a complete overview of the Fulbright Scholar Programs that CIES administers on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. A copy of her presentation can be found on the Campus Representative Web site: www.cies.org/campus_reps/download/FulbrightWorkshop1.ppt. Assistant directors and program officers from all of our world regions and program units gave highlights and updates of the 2007-08 award competition. A full listing of our staff members can be found here: www.cies.org/staff.htm.

Campus Representatives were joined by CIES staff members for lunch, allowing them time to further discuss the Fulbright opportunities available to their faculty and institutions. The day ended with a presentation from Athena Mison Fulay, higher education liaison officer, on the role of Campus Representatives and best practices to use when promoting Fulbright and international education.
