Safat Business Center

Despite its small size, Kuwait maintains significant global importance as a major exporter of crude oil and natural gas. Kuwait is bordered by Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and has sovereignty over nine small islands in the Persian Gulf. Kuwaitis are predominantly Sunni Muslim, although a sizeable Shi'a Muslim minority exists as well. Arabic is the official language, and English is widely used in business.

Due to the prosperity of Kuwait's enormous oil and gas reserves, an extremely large expatriate population has existed in Kuwait since the 1940s, including Palestinians, Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians, and immigrants from other Arab countries.

Kuwait has one of the highest literacy rates in the Arab world. Public education is free from the primary through the tertiary level, for both males and females. The government also subsidizes study abroad programs for Kuwaiti citizens to receive degrees overseas.

Kuwait University is the country's major institution of higher education. It consists of six campuses spread throughout Kuwait City. More than half of Kuwait University students are women.
