Country Pages > Russian Federation

The Russian Federation, the world's largest nation, covers more than seventeen million square miles. Its population, spread from the Baltic to the Pacific, the Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea, is served by one of the largest and most famous educational systems anywhere. Challenged by the changing political, economic, and philosophical climates of the post-Soviet period, Russian universities and institutions have worked hard to maintain academic excellence while preparing the country's population for life in a changed world.

The Fulbright Scholar Program has sent American scholars and received Russian scholars since 1973. Beginning with only 8 Americans and 5 Russians, it has grown to accommodate up to 50 scholars in each direction. The Fulbright Program allows American scholars to propose grants for lecturing, lecturing/research, or research. Placements may be requested for virtually any academic entity in the country.

In order to familiarize American scholars both with the country and with its educational establishment, CIES has located a number of useful websites. Interested applicants should consult these pages and the CIES program personnel.
