Awards and Benefits
Summary:  28 Research, Lecturing, or Lecturing/Research awards. See also Distinguished Chair Program for the PUC-Rio Distinguished Chair in American Studies.
Program Overview:  Brazil is one of the most influential countries in the western hemisphere, an economic giant and one of the world's biggest democracies. Its universities produce some 10,000 Ph.D.s per year, and leading research centers in fields such as agriculture, energy, biotechnology and epidemiology attract scholars and students from around the globe. Brazil is also noted for the richness and distinctiveness of its culture; its export of music is as significant as that of its soybeans. Opportunities abound for U.S. Scholars to forge collaborations with Brazilian counterparts across the disciplines. Proposals will be considered from junior as well as senior scholars. The goals of the Fulbright Scholar Program with Brazil are to support collaborative research in all fields, strengthen Brazilian graduate education through teaching and contribute to broader and longer term U.S.-Brazil institutional linkages. Applicants without significant experience in Brazil are encouraged to apply, as are Brazilianists who can further knowledge and understanding of Brazil in the United States. Applicants should request a letter of invitation from the prospective host institution in Brazil. The academic year is from March to December, with a one-month break in July. The Commission will consider serial grants which will allow the grant to be divided into shorter in-country stays over 2 consecutive years. In the case of a serial grant, the total number of months cannot exceed 4. A maximum of two round-trip airfares for the grantee only will be provided for serial grantees. Visit www.fulbright.org.br/english/comissao.html to access comprehensive listings of Brazilian scholars at universities throughout the country.
