Award #0151
Category:  Lecturing/Research
Number of Awards: 2
Deadline:  August 1, 2009
Grant Activity: Teach two undergraduate or graduate courses, or a combination of both, in field of specialization per semester. Courses meet once a week for 90 minutes. This reduced teaching load (normal load for Fulbright lecturing grantees in Japan is four courses) allows grantees to conduct research on a topic of their choice. The research project should be consistent with the grantee's area of expertise, and the project should be feasible, especially with regard to language, time and venue constraints. The proposal must also make clear why residence in Japan is essential to undertake the research.
Language: Japanese proficiency, if needed for research.
Additional Qualifications: Applicants must have at least 3 years of university or college teaching experience beyond Ph.D. Teaching at a community college counts toward the required 3 years. Teaching assistant work does not qualify.
Location: Affiliation to be finalized by the Japan-U.S. Educational Commission.
Length of Grant: 5 months or 10 months
Starting Date: September 2010 for two-semester awards, and September 2010 or April 2011 for one-semester awards
Comments: While applicants are urged to obtain an invitation from potential host institutions to be submitted with their applications, the Japan-U.S. Educational Commission will finalize all affiliation arrangements. Grantees are required to attend a 2-day group orientation in Japan, as well as a midyear conference.
