Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Up to 24 awards total to be distributed as follows: up to 16 awards in the All Disciplines category, two joint awards with Canada, three U.S.-Mexico Border Program awards and three TEFL awards. See also Canada-Mexico Joint Award in North American Studies under Regional and Special Programs.
Program Overview:  The rich, dynamic relationship between the U.S. and Mexico offers plentiful opportunities for scholars interested in conducting research and/or teaching on issues of relevance for both countries. The U.S.-Mexico Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange (COMEXUS) promotes the development of networks of individuals and institutions that stimulate research and teaching on important themes related to the binational agenda. COMEXUS is particularly interested in projects conducted by U.S. scholars on Mexican culture, society and politics to deepen the understanding of Mexico in the United States. Areas of collaboration go far beyond border issues (which are also of relevance to COMEXUS) and can include projects on migration, ecological issues, public health, education, public policy and other areas or the emergence of binational interest groups in areas such as human rights, environmental protection and trade policy. COMEXUS will also support projects in the arts that further dialogue and contact between U.S. and Mexican arts communities. All awards are open to candidates at any academic or professional rank. Academic semesters begin August/September and January/February. Academic-year grants are preferred. Grantees and accompanying dependents must enter Mexico with an FM-3 visa, which is arranged by COMEXUS. Grantees with dual U.S. and Mexican nationality are required by Mexican law to enter Mexico on a Mexican passport. For more information on the program, contact usprograms@comexus.org.mx or visit the COMEXUS Web site at www.comexus.org.mx.
