Awards and Benefits
Summary:  One award for lecturing or lecturing/research. Applications are welcome from Ph.D.s as well as those with terminal degrees or M.A.s with adequate university teaching or professional experience. English is sufficient for TEFL award applicants, and non-Russian speakers are welcome to apply for lecturing awards in All Disciplines. Research applicants should have demonstrated Russian language ability. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, in cooperation with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Higher Education, will arrange host institution affiliation. Program Overview:  Uzbekistan offers much for those interested in history, from ancient to modern. Uzbekistan continues to enjoy a highly educated and skilled labor force; the educational system has achieved 97% literacy, and the mean amount of schooling for both men and women is 11 years. The academic year starts in September and ends in June. Uzbek is the official state language; however, Russian is the de facto language for interethnic communication, including much day-to-day government and business use.

Benefits
Stipend: $2,640-$2,860 monthly base stipend, according to the standard base stipend formula.
Maintenance: Standard maintenance. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $700-$1,100 per month, based on the city of affiliation and the number of accompanying dependents.
Travel/Relocation: Standard travel/relocation. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $4,700-$12,100, based on the number of accompanying dependents.
Tuition Assistance: Tuition Assistance.
Other Benefits:  A maximum book allowance of $1,500, prorated based on length of the grant.
