Program Overview:
Turkmenistan offers much for those interested in history, from ancient to modern, and has seen a significant revival of its folk craft traditions, including ceramics, carpet weaving, and embroidery. The majority of Turkmenistan's citizens are ethnic Turkmen; other ethnic groups include Russian, Uzbek, and Kazakh. Turkmen is the official language of Turkmenistan, though Russian still is widely spoken as a "language of inter-ethnic communication". Education is universal and mandatory through the secondary level. The academic year starts in September and ends in June. The spring semester begins at the end of February and ends at the end of June.
