Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Up to five full maintenance lecturing/research awards and up to two partial maintenance research awards for either research or the arts. See also research opportunities under the South and Central Asia Regional Research Program.
Program Overview:  The academic year runs from July 2009 through June 2010 or August 2009 through July 2010, depending on the host institution. Associate or full professor rank is preferred, though not required, for all academic awards. Retired faculty are encouraged to apply for awards. Applicants for academic research grants should have a Ph.D. and at least 3 years postdoctoral experience. Lecturer/researcher applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent, at least 5 years postdoctoral teaching experience, and should describe suggested courses and submit course outlines. A request by a Nepali university for a lecturer may mean that the department lacks trained faculty in an area, but it does not necessarily mean that the department has decided what courses the lecturer will teach. Depending on the institution and department, such decisions may be made just prior to the start of classes. The United States Educational Foundation in Nepal (USEF/N) will do its best to provide advance information when possible, but lecturers may not have a specific course assignment before arrival in Nepal. Patience, flexibility, a spirit of adventure and a sense of humor are among the most important qualities required of Fulbright grantees. The USEF/N will give information about applicants to persons at either Tribhuvan University or Kathmandu University but cannot guarantee affiliations for prospective applicants. Contact CIES for basic information and, for affiliation assistance, USEF/N at www.fulbrightnepal.org.np or Executive Director Peter Moran at peter@fulbrightnepal.org.np.
