Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Up to four awards of 10 months for lecturing or lecturing/research. Lengths of awards are flexible, but preference is given to applicants available for 10 months. Grantees should expect to lecture to undergraduate and graduate students. Grantees may also have opportunities to lecture at regional universities. Program Overview:  The academic year at most institutions in the Kyrgyz Republic starts on September 1, 2009 and lasts until the end of June 2010. The fall semester is September 1, 2009 until mid-January 2010. The spring semester is February to July 2010. Russian and Kyrgyz are the most widely used local languages, although English is sufficient for lecturing. Universities offer many research opportunities for scholars interested in Central Asian studies, particularly elements of traditional Kyrgyz culture, including literature, music, history, Kyrgyz and Russian linguistic studies and post-Soviet politics. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy will confirm affiliation and placement and will organize guest lectures in regional universities for Fulbright Scholars. Benefits
Stipend: $2,640-$2,860 monthly base stipend, according to the standard base stipend formula.
Maintenance: Standard maintenance. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $550-$1,200 per month, based on the number of accompanying dependents and the city of placement. Housing for families may be in short supply.
Travel/Relocation: Travel and relocation as described on page ZZZ. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $5,000-$13,000, based on the number of accompanying dependents.
Tuition Assistance: Tuition Assistance.
Other Benefits:  A book allowance of $1,500.
