Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Up to five awards for lecturing, research, and/or lecturing/research. Grant length for all awards is flexible, but each grant cannot be less than one academic semester (4 months). See also research opportunities under the Central and South Asia Regional Research Program.
Program Overview:  The academic year in Kazakhstan normally lasts for 10 months, starting in September and ending in June, including a winter break. The fall semester starts on September 1, 2009 and lasts until mid-January 2010. The spring semester will start on February 1, 2010 and end on June 25, 2010. Scholars of all academic ranks, junior, mid-career and senior faculty, are welcome to apply. Although applicants with Ph.D.s are preferred, consideration may be given to those with a relevant master's degree and more extensive teaching and curriculum development experience. English is sufficient for lecturing and lecturing/research awards, but Russian or Kazakh language proficiency may be necessary for research. Benefits
Stipend: $1,870-$3,850 monthly base stipend, according to the standard base stipend formula.
Maintenance: Standard maintenance. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $950-$2,200 per month, based on the number of accompanying dependents and the city of placement. Housing for families may be in short supply.
Travel/Relocation: Standard travel/relocation. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $5,000-$13,000, based on the number of accompanying dependents.
Tuition Assistance: Tuition Assistance.
Other Benefits:  A book allowance of $1,500.
