Program Overview:
Academic year is October 2009 through June 2010. Semester break is first 2 weeks of February 2010. Preference for candidates with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. Applicants may suggest preferred host institutions. Although not mandatory, a letter of invitation from a potential host institution may be obtained by applicants and included in the application. Final affiliation will be confirmed or arranged and secured by the Jordanian-American Commission for Educational Exchange in Amman. Stipend: Stipend for researchers only at $1,700 per month; Stipend for lecturers or lecturers/ researchers; between $2,400-2,600 per month depending on rank. The exchange rate is $1=.713 Jordanian Dinars (JD), as of 12/07.
Maintenance: Monthly maintenance allowance (MMA) will be $1,400-1,800 per month, or its equivalent in Jordanian Dinars (JDs), based on the number of dependents who accompany and reside with the grantee for at least 80% of the grant period. Lecturers or lecturer/researchers only may wish to accept modestly furnished, on-campus housing at most institutions. Grantees who choose to live off campus will receive approximately $283 per month from the host institution to supplement the higher monthly rental costs. NOTE: The host institution's MMA cost-sharing amount will be deducted from the grantee's commission-disbursed MMA.
Travel/Relocation: For the grantee, a one-time payment of $5,560 for airfare, excess baggage, visa fees, in-transit costs, temporary hotel costs, health clearance tests, residency and work permit fees, mailing of teaching materials, local transportation in the U.S. or Jordan, and other miscellaneous costs. A dependent travel allowance of $2,500 for grantees with accompanying dependents who remain with the grantee for at least 80% of the grant period.
