Program Overview:
The United States-Israel Educational Foundation's (USIEF) U.S. scholar program is a vital component in the Foundation's efforts to help strengthen cultural and educational ties between the two countries through scholarly interaction. The main criteria in the selection of USIEF fellows are academic excellence, leadership capabilities and the potential of the proposed program of work to achieve professional objectives while enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and Israel. USIEF also aims to allocate grants to scholars and professionals representative of the geographic and ethnic diversity of the American people. In addition, priority is given to candidates who have had limited or no prior experience in Israel. Knowledge of Hebrew is helpful but not required, except as necessary for research projects. Applicants are encouraged to arrange affiliation and include a letter of invitation with their application. USIEF is willing to assist those interested in identifying suitable host institutions. According to USIEF policy, a host institution is obliged to make a financial contribution toward the funding of its guest's USIEF grant. This financial aspect should be included in preliminary discussions with potential hosts, prior to the issuance of a letter of invitation. Visit www.che.org.il/english/colleges/default.asp for a listing of accredited institutions of higher education in Israel. Israel is a country rich in archaeological sites, antiquities and plant and animal life. It has a diverse and multicultural population. The percentage of Israelis engaged in scientific and technological inquiry, and the amount spent on research and development in relation to its GDP, are among the highest in the world.
