Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Up to eight awards, contingent upon availability of funds.
Program Overview:  Senior lecturing and research awards are from 3-5 months, according to the scholar's availability and the decision of the final selection committee in Spain; and in the case of lecturers, the needs of the host institution as mutually agreed with the scholar. Professional journalist awards are for 3 months. Generally, the fall semester begins in late September, and the spring semester begins in mid-February. Prospective applicants may contact the Spanish Fulbright Commission for further information: adviser@comision-fulbright.org, www.fulbright.es. An "estudiante" (student) visa is mandatory for U.S. citizens on Fulbright awards for cultural exchange activities of three months or longer. Scholars also apply under this "student" category. The Commission will provide detailed information and documentation for obtaining this initial visa from a Spanish consulate in the U.S. or other country, and after the grantee's arrival, for obtaining the card of official student status for the duration of the grant.

Benefits
Stipend: Lecturers: 2,275 euro per month; researchers: 1,700 euro per month; professional journalists: 1,600 euro per month
Maintenance: LECTURERS AND RESEARCHERS: Housing allowance of 540 euro monthly. Living allowance of between 390 and 540 euro monthly, based on the number of accompanying legal family members up to a maximum of two, when they accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the award period. In Catalonia, up to four senior scholars are co-sponsored by the Catalan Regional Government, subject to availability of funds. This co-funding arrangement with the Spanish Fulbright Commission will not affect the level of grantee stipends and other benefits. The 01/08 exchange rate was US$1=.0.68 euro.
Travel/Relocation: Travel allowance and excess luggage for scholar, total of $1,700. For senior lecturers and researchers: relocation allowance of 850 euro. Also for senior lecturers and researchers dependents: travel allowance of $1,400 per person for up to two legal family members who accompany the grantee for at least 80 % of the award period.
Tuition Assistance: n.a.
Other Benefits:  The lecturer in American Studies with the joint appointment at the University in Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona receives a one-time housing allowance of 720 euro from each university. The lecturer in American Studies at the University of Huelva receives a 3,000 euro housing allowance from the university.
