Awards and Benefits
Summary:  A total of seven lecturing and lecturing/research awards. The duration of each award is three months. See also Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program and regional/special programs in Europe.
Program Overview:  The academic year starts in September or October, depending on the universities. The fall semester ends in February and the spring semester starts in March and ends in July. Portuguese faculty and students in general have good knowledge of English and can speak and understand enough English to attend classes taught in English. Grantees must apply for a visa at the Portuguese Embassy in Washington, DC. Additional information regarding host institutions and details of the individual openings are available from CIES and the Luso-American Educational Commission in Lisbon. Benefits
Stipend: n.a.
Maintenance: 2,800 euro per month for senior lecturers and researchers. The 01/08 exchange rate was US$1=1.68 euro.
Travel/Relocation: Travel allowance of up to $1,500. No excess-baggage allowance. (Flights only. No taxi, car, train or bus expenses will be covered.)
Tuition Assistance: n.a.
Other Benefits:  Additional funding for dependents who stay at least 80% of the time of the grant period in the monthly amount of 250 euro for one or two dependents or 400 euro for three or more dependents.
