Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Approximately eight lecturing awards; three research awards, including joint award with Austria; and up to four travel-only grants. See also Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program.
Program Overview:  Academic year is from September 2009 to June 2010. Semesters are 4-5 months in length. Second semester begins in February 2010. English language is sufficient for lecturing in all fields. Applications are welcome in all fields, although preference will be given to subjects related to politics, economics and society in Hungary, as well as U.S. studies. Please see specific awards for additional areas of interest. Affiliations with Hungarian state-run institutions are preferred. Double affiliations may be possible. CIES staff will send, upon request, specific information about awards. English language schools (pre-K-12) are located in Budapest only. In major cities, there are dual-language high schools where specific subjects are taught in English.

Benefits
Stipend: n.a.
Maintenance: $1,800 per month for researchers; $2,500 per month for lecturers at the rank of assistant professor or below; $2,700 per month for lecturers at the rank of associate or full professor. Allowance of $100 per month for one dependent and $200 per month for two or more dependents who accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the grant period. Housing or housing allowance of up to 90,000 forints (HUF) per month and living allowance of up to 40,000 forints per month. For Austrian-Hungarian joint research award: 2 months using Austrian research grant schedule (2,200 euro per month for grantee only; no dependent allowance); 2 months using Hungarian researcher schedule (US$1,800 per month; housing or housing allowance of up to 90,000 forints (HUF) per month and living allowance of up to 40,000 forints per month; no dependent travel or dependent allowance). (The 12/07 exchange rates were US$1=0.6792 euro and US$1=172.187 HUF).
Travel/Relocation: Reimbursement of round-trip airfare for grantee up to $2,000. Dependent travel of $500 for one dependent and $1,000 for two or more dependents for grants of 5 months or longer. (Dependents must accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the grant period.) For Austro-Hungarian joint research award: fixed-sum travel allowance of $1,000 to be covered 50/50 by the Austrian and Hungarian Fulbright Commissions.
Tuition Assistance: n.a.
Other Benefits:  One-time research allowance of $400 for research grants of up to 4 months and $700 for research grants of 5 months or more. Up to $1,500 book allowance for lecturers. Travel-only awards limited to round-trip travel costs only.
