Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Approximately 38 lecturing/research awards for 2-10 months (plus up to five travel-only awards). Award categories are senior full-maintenance, travel only, junior lecturing and junior research. Preference will be given to grant durations of approximately one semester (2-5 months) with the exception of academic-year grants for junior lecturers. Up to 50 awards for special 2-week seminar programs. See also the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program and regional/special programs in Europe.
Program Overview:  Most awards are open to all disciplines, to scholars and professionals from all academic fields. The maintenance grant category for senior scholars offers flexibility with grant durations and starting dates during the program year. In general, applicants are expected to have several years of experience beyond the doctorate and are advised to arrange affiliation and solicit an invitation from a prospective host institution in Germany. Preference for scholars who have not received Fulbright Scholar grants to Germany within the last 10 years. Benefits
Stipend: n.a.
Maintenance: 2,050 euro for senior lecturing/research awards; 1,800 euro for junior lecturing awards; 1,500 euro for junior research awards; 1,500-2,050 euro for Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik Research in International Politics for either junior or senior researcher. 276 euro monthly supplement to the stipend for accompanying dependents (all grant categories except travel-only). The 01/08 exchange rate was US$1=0.68 euro.
Travel/Relocation: International round-trip travel (tourist class) or standard reimbursement for grantee only in all award categories. Prepaid travel arrangements made through the German Fulbright Commission.
Tuition Assistance: n.a.
Other Benefits:  Incidental allowance of 100 euro per month, baggage allowance of 150 euro total, orientation and mid-year meetings, and German language courses between 2 and 4 weeks for eligible grantees and accompanying spouses. German health insurance program, which includes accompanying spouse and minors if they do not have their own income.
