Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Up to eight awards for lecturing and/or research.
Program Overview:  Applicants should be at the assistant professor level or higher, hold a Ph.D. and have the relevant years of university teaching experience in the appropriate fields. Professionals in the appropriate fields may also apply. The academic year is October through June, with semesters beginning in early October and late February. Semesters at the American University in Bulgaria, Blagoevgrad, begin at the end of August and January. Benefits
Stipend: $2,500 per month for lecturers or lecturer/researchers at the rank of assistant professor or below; $2,700 per month for lecturers or lecturer/researchers at the rank of associate or full professor; $2,000 per month for researchers.
Maintenance: For single grantees of all categories: $100 monthly subsistence allowance; for grantees accompanied by dependents - $200. The housing allowance is $350-$500 per month (if accommodation by the host institution is unavailable). The amount of housing allowance is based on geographic location and number of dependents. Host institutions are expected to provide a local currency salary equivalent to that of a Bulgarian university professor.
Travel/Relocation: Travel allowance of $1,700 for grantee. For grants of 4 months or longer, dependent travel allowance of $1,500 for one dependent and $3,000 for two or more dependents. Dependents must accompany grantee for at least 80% of the grant period to qualify for the travel allowance. For grants of 4 months or more, $1,800 relocation allowance.
Tuition Assistance: n.a.
Other Benefits:  One-time book allowance of $1,500 for lecturers and lecturers/researchers. One-time allowance of $750-$1,500 for researchers, depending on the length of grant. Free attendance of the Fulbright International Summer Institute (FISI) in August. Prepaid course in Bulgarian language at Sofia University, Department of Language Learning.
