Program Overview:  The academic calendar varies from university to university, but in general the academic year is from October through June, with semesters running from early October through December/early January and mid-February through June. Under new regulations determined by the U.S. Department of State, adult dependents may accompany grantees, and dependents under 21 may do so on a case-by-case basis. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a post-communist country and a postwar country in transition. Bosnian society is still very much in the midst of healing, reconciliation and reconstruction at all levels--educational, political, social, psychological, economic, etc. There are opportunities in Bosnia to apply one's academic specialization to "history in progress" by working with Bosnians and the large international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina on issues of reconstruction, reconciliation and recovery.
