Program Overview:
Awards offered by Fulbright New Zealand are open to scholars and professionals from all disciplines. Applications are welcome from practitioners in the fine and performing arts with established reputations in their field, from recent Ph.D.s with some teaching experience, as well as from more established scholars. Fulbright New Zealand strongly encourages those applicants who have little or no experience in New Zealand to apply. If you have extensive prior experience in New Zealand, it may be a disadvantage to your application. Extensive prior experience is defined as study, teaching, research or employment in New Zealand for a period aggregating more than six months within the last ten years. Applicants who are currently living in New Zealand and those with dual United States-New Zealand citizenship are ineligible for an award. Applicants should read the CIES Web site on "Making Contacts Abroad" (www.cies.org/us_scholars/tips_contacts.htm) for suggestions on obtaining an invitation letter from New Zealand universities/organizations. Grantees may be invited to deliver at least one public lecture on material not previously presented in New Zealand and should indicate their willingness to visit and deliver seminars at other New Zealand higher education or research institutions and to participate fully in any activities arranged by Fulbright New Zealand, including the orientation program held in early February. Information on Fulbright New Zealand, its programs and links to all New Zealand universities can be found on its Web site, www.fulbright.org.nz. Full Maintenance awards are granted to applicants who will not receive any financial support from their home or host institution. Partial Maintenance awards are for those receiving financial support from their home or host institution. Note that the financial entitlements of the partial award in New Zealand are similar to regular Fulbright Scholar awards of many other countries and provide adequate assistance to live in New Zealand during the grant period. If you intend to reside in New Zealand longer than the grant period (excluding holiday or travel time), you must include details in your application.
