Summary:
Up to six lecturing awards, up to two lecturing/research awards, up to five research awards, up to two research awards for working journalists and five seminar awards for international education administrators.
Program Overview:
Lecturing and lecturing/research awards for 10 months start in September 2009, and awards for one academic term (approximately 4 months) start in September 2009 or April 2010. All teaching is in English. Research awards may start between July 2009 and June 2010 and are for 3 to 9 months. Serial grants consisting of two short-term visits over a 2-year period are possible for researchers. Research awards are open to academics and to professionals in business, government, journalism, law, social services, etc. Applicants may be Japan specialists or nonspecialists who wish to pursue comparative research in their fields. To facilitate the proposed work, applicants who are not specialists are expected to make contact with a Japanese colleague or institution prior to submitting their applications. Applicants in the arts, including creative writing, must have an institutional affiliation in the United States. Individuals who are living in Japan are not eligible to apply. Applicants should consult the benefits section of the awards book in order to be reassured that Fulbright grants to Japan are generous enough to cover their expenses. THE STAFF PERSON FOR U.S.-JAPAN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION ADMINISTRATORS PROGRAM IS DAVID ADAMS, 202.686.4021, dadams@cies.iie.org.
