Program Overview:
Candidates with a Ph.D. and at least 2 years of postdoctoral university or college teaching experience are preferred. The academic calendar consists of two semesters, January to June and August to November. Starting dates for university semesters have been irregular in recent years. English language schools for accompanying dependent school-age children include the Sir Harry Johnston Primary School in Zomba, St. Andrews Primary and High Schools or the Hillview Primary School (Limbe) in Blantyre, the Bishop Mackenzie International School (K-12) in Lilongwe, the Kamuzu Academy near Kasungu and the African Bible College Elementary School (K-6) in Lilongwe.
Stipend: $2,640-$2,860 monthly base stipend, according to the standard base stipend formula.
Maintenance: Standard maintenance. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $1,400-$1,700 per month, based on the number of dependents, plus housing and a supplemental housing allowance of $700 per month for utilities, refurbishing and repair of university housing.
Travel/Relocation: Standard travel/relocation. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $6,800 for the grantee; additional dependent travel allowance of $4,000 for one accompanying dependent, $8,000 for two or more dependents.
