Awards and Benefits
Summary:  One or more lecturing or lecturing/research awards. For research awards, see the African Regional Research Program.
Program Overview:  Candidates with a Ph.D. and at least 2 years of postdoctoral teaching experience at the university or college level are preferred. Academic and professional candidates will be considered. Applicants for combined lecturing and research should plan on a 70/30 teaching to research ratio. Undergraduate classes are large but get smaller for advanced undergraduate and graduate classes. A letter of invitation from the host institution, submitted as part of the application, is recommended but not required. To apply for a visa into Cameroon, a letter of invitation from the host institution is required. The academic year begins in October and ends in July. Although Cameroon is officially bilingual, French speakers outnumber English speakers by a four to one ratio, and a working knowledge of French is necessary. An English language school, the American School of Yaounde (K-12), offers educational programs for accompanying dependent school-age children.

Benefits
Stipend: $2,640-$2,860 monthly base stipend, according to the standard base stipend formula.
Maintenance: Standard maintenance. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $1,250-$1,550 per month, plus housing. Grantees not receiving university housing will receive a housing allowance of $1,900-$2,100 per month, based on the number of dependents.
Travel/Relocation: Standard travel/relocation. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $7,000 for the grantee; additional dependent travel allowance of $5,000 for one accompanying dependent, $10,000 for two or more dependents.
