Awards and Benefits
Summary:  Two or more lecturing/research awards. For research awards, see the African Regional Research Program.
Program Overview:  Candidates with a Ph.D., at least 5 years of postdoctoral teaching experience at the university or college level and an extensive publishing record are preferred. Candidates are encouraged to correspond with potential host departments to determine whether their disciplines and specializations are of interest. A letter of invitation from the host institution or academic center, submitted as part of the application, is recommended but not required. The academic year at the University of Botswana consists of two semesters: August to December and January to May. Several private schools are available in Gaborone, including Westwood International, Maru-a-Pula, Northside and Thornhill schools, for dependent K-12 school-age children.

Benefits
Stipend: $2,640-$2,860 monthly base stipend, according to the standard base stipend formula.
Maintenance: Standard maintenance. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $1,115-$1,615 per month, based on the number of dependents, plus housing and a supplemental monthly allowance of $475 for utilities.
Travel/Relocation: Standard travel/relocation. For 2007-2008 the following was provided: $6,300 for the grantee; additional dependent travel allowance of $3,500 for one accompanying dependent, $7,000 for two or more dependents. The host institution may provide partial travel for the grantee. Fulbright direct support will be reduced accordingly.
