Grant Activity: Assist in preparation and delivery of English language programs for professional purposes at graduate levels through lectures, tutorials, computer-assisted courses and use of language learning software. Train English language training tutors, assist in developing curriculum and advise on consolidating the resource and documentation center of the Institute. Conduct research to assist in surveying language needs, nationally and regionally, and contribute to setting up research activities on new and innovative approaches to English language teaching.

Language: English is the official language and the language needed for teaching and research; a working knowledge of French is useful.

Comments: The university set up the institute in response to the need expressed by the government of Mauritius, to make full use of the language resources of the country as part of its strategy to become a knowledge hub of the Indian Ocean region. The institute will be responsible for designing and implementing the university language training programs for professionals, including translators and interpreters. It will also act as a bridge between education and training by adding the professional work-relevant language and communication skills to the academic competence and aptitudes. It will aim to: (a) provide a range of professional language courses in sectors such as business, banking, tourism, diplomacy and international relations, (b) enhance English language communication skills in various areas of studies across campus, (c) offer award courses in translation and interpretation in partnership with foreign specialized institutions, and (d) provide professional language services in various domains such as translation and editing.
