Grant Activity: Teach one to two courses in TEFL theory, with an emphasis on the communicative methodology. The teaching schedule will be approximately 14 hours per week, with class sizes from 10-15 students. Consult the teaching staff on the new tendencies in teaching English and assist in developing and introducing a new course on TEFL methodology to be introduced into the curriculum. Guest lectures at other educational institutions are possible, as well as participation in the activities of the English Language Teachers' Association.

Comments: The purpose of this award is to provide assistance to English language departments to develop and introduce new communicative methodology in TEFL. One of the basic aims is to assist the host institution develop a course/courses in TEFL to replace the outdated Soviet methodology in the curriculum. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy will assist in making assignments based on the best and most appropriate match between the expertise of the grantees and the needs of prospective host institutions.
