Grant Activity: Teach one or two courses in area of specialization. Assist and consult the teaching staff at the host institution to develop new course(s) in American studies to introduce into the curriculum of the institution. In addition, the grantee may be asked to assist in student academic advising, committee work, directing theses and faculty training. Research opportunities are limited, with the possible exception of primary social science research in areas such as politics and society.

Specialization(s): Experience in distance education in American universities is desired, but not required. The university would like to update their distance education program using the American experience as a model.

Language: English is the language of instruction. Interpreters will be available if necessary.

Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. is preferred, although M.A. may be acceptable. See Comments section for more details.

Comments: Applications will be accepted from both academics and professionals. Applicants with Ph.D.s are preferred, but those with M.A.s with substantial experience in their field of specialization are also accepted. All applicants, regardless of academics or professionals, must have at least 3 years of teaching experience at a university, college or community college. Teaching assistantships do not count toward the required years of teaching. The purpose of this award is to assist the host institution to develop general courses in American studies which could be the basis for a new program in American studies. The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy and the host institution will provide assistance in finding housing. PAS will assist in making assignments based on the best and most appropriate match between the expertise of the grantees and the needs of prospective host institutions.
