Grant Activity: Teach two to three undergraduate or graduate courses each semester. Consult on curriculum development and conduct research. Opportunities are available to lecture at other universities. Public lectures and/or presentations may be required. For Lecturing/Research applicants, conduct research while not engaged in lecturing.

Specialization(s): Any application in social sciences, humanities and/or business administration is accepted. See Comments section for preferred fields.

Language: English is sufficient for lecturing. Host universities will assist in finding translators if needed. Funding from the Fulbright grant should be used to cost-share part of the translation fees. Russian language skills required for research.

Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. preferred but professional applicants with substantial experience in the specialization are also considered.

Location: Bishkek Humanities University; Kyrgyz State National University; American University--Central Asia; Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University; Academy of Management Under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic; Osh State University or Jalal-Abad State University

Length of Grant: 5 months to 9 months

Starting Date: September 1, 2009 or January 20, 2010

Comments: Applications will be accepted from both academics and professionals. Applicants with Ph.D.s are preferred, but those with M.A.s with substantial experience in their field of specialization are also accepted. All applicants, regardless of academics or professionals, must have at least 3 years of teaching experience at a university, college or community college. Teaching assistantships do not count toward the required years of teaching. Preferred fields are business administration, economics, law, international relations, comparative politics, psychology and education. The U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section (PAS) and the host institution will provide assistance in finding housing. PAS of the U.S. Embassy will assist in making assignments based on the best and most appropriate match between the expertise of the grantees and the needs of prospective host institutions. Invitation letters are not required for application.
