Senior Professorships in American Culture

Grant Activity: The research and lecturing components of the grant should be equal. The applicant must offer (at least) one substantial course to graduate students (master's or Ph.D.) in his/her own field of expertise. This module must be an extra option for students, not just a regular course from the existing curriculum. Professors will be encouraged to lecture occasionally at other Dutch universities, take part in conferences and seminars and share their knowledge in other ways, as well. The professor should be available for students seeking advice for at least half a day a week. All practical details and information regarding reading lists, assignments, books, materials required, type of course (lecture, seminar) are agreed upon between the host and the grantee.
Specialization(s): American history, law, economics, political sciences, sociology, literature, communications, music, art history, theater, or other areas of American cultural studies.
Language: Lecturing is in English. The Dutch language ability should be commensurate with the requirements of the research field.
Additional Qualifications: Full professor with at least 5 years of teaching experience.
Location: The grantees can affiliate themselves with any university in The Netherlands where teaching can be done in English at Faculties of Letters or Faculties of Culture
Length of Grant: 4 months
Starting Date: September 2009 or January/February 2010
Comments: A letter of invitation from the host institution is required. The hosting universities will assist in finding appropriate housing.
