Grant Activity: Conduct independent or collaborative research, teach graduate courses or combine both activities in the grantee's area of specialization.
Specialization(s): Any area of science or technology with special interest in projects in biofuels, health and environment.
Language: Working knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish is desired. English may be acceptable in some fields if indicated by hosts.
Location: Any university in Brazil. Applicants are encouraged to arrange affiliation and include letter of invitation.
Length of Grant: 3 months to 4 months
Starting Date: August 2009 or March 2010
Comments: Awards are co-sponsored by CAPES, the Brazilian federal agency for the support and evaluation of graduate education. Proposals with a teaching component should include a sample course outline. Teaching of most subjects at the graduate level is in English. Projects involving field studies among indigenous populations or in nature preserves must have special authorization from the Brazilian government; guidelines can be obtained from the Brazilian Embassy or consulates in the United States, but requests should be forwarded to the commission for processing. Allow at least 6 months for entire process.
