Scholar-in-Residence, Hong Kong-America Center

Grant Activity: Develop collaborative projects related to one of the Hong Kong-America Center (HKAC)'s five program areas (see the Center's Web site) and to the applicant's area of expertise. Projects may include seminars, conferences, workshops, student exchange programs and policy-oriented symposia in Hong Kong and China, especially the Pearl River Delta region. Assist the director in attracting resources from business and government in Hong Kong, China and the United States. Teach one course at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and give occasional lectures in area of specialization to universities and civic associations in Hong Kong. Specific responsibilities of the Fulbright Scholar will be negotiated with the director of the HKAC after selection.
Additional Qualifications: Associate or full professor preferred with administrative experience in higher education. Some direct experience in Chinese society and culture is desirable but not essential.
Location: Hong Kong-America Center, Chinese University of Hong Kong
Length of Grant: 12 months
Starting Date: Late August 2009
Comments: This award is not primarily for undertaking one's own academic research or for teaching. In coordination with the HKAC director, Dr. Glenn Shive, the Fulbright Scholar is expected to exercise a substantial amount of personal initiative and creativity in conceiving projects related to the work of the HKAC. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Shive at glennshive@cuhk.edu.hk to assess the fit between their expertise, experience and interests and the requirements of the position. The likely departments in which the Fulbright Scholar would teach at CUHK have faculty profiles, research interests, etc. posted on www.cuhk.edu.hk. The site also includes research units and specialized libraries. Any research undertaken by the Fulbright Scholar should be related to one of the HKAC's themes and be done in collaboration with a Hong Kong scholar.
