North American Studies: Laval University Research Chair in North American Studies

Grant Activity: Conduct research, develop collaborations and offer occasional guest lectures at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Specialization(s): International studies in any area related to Canada-U.S. or Canada-U.S.-Mexico relations, including peace and security, inter-American affairs, international trade, environmental law and affairs, international management standards, and water resources and management
Language: Working knowledge of French commensurate with the requirements of the project. French is the language of communication at Laval University and in the Quebec region generally.
Additional Qualifications: Junior scholars with promising research records as well as established senior scholars are encouraged to apply.
Location: Quebec Institute for Advanced International Studies, Laval University
Length of Grant: 4 months or 9 months
Starting Date: September 2009 for academic-year grants; September 2009 or January 2010 for one-semester grants
Comments: The Quebec Institute for Advanced International Studies (Institut Quebecois des Hautes Etudes Internationales) is a multidisciplinary graduate school and research center devoted to the study of international affairs. It brings together experts from the fields of political science, economics, law, agro-economy, management, history and geography. The Institute offers a renowned M.A. program in international studies and also publishes the quarterly "Etudes internationales" as well as "Les conflits dans le monde," an annual report on international conflicts. Located in the heart of Quebec's historic capital city, Laval is one of Canada's leading universities. A letter of invitation is not required, but applicants are encouraged to contact the institution to discuss research interests.
