Grant Activity: Teach B.A. or M.A. level courses. Generally two courses per semester, 3 hours per course per week. Depending on the department, it is likely that the grantee will also work with faculty, developing curriculum and conducting workshops and seminars. This grant will be heavily weighted towards lecturing (at least 80 percent), though some time for research may be available. A letter of interest from the prospective host department should be included in the application.
Specialization(s): Business administration, including management, finance, accounting, marketing, human resource management, organizational development or management information systems; electrical or mechanical engineering; pharmacy; biotechnology; environmental science; medical education, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology or microbiology. (Note that medical school courses are at undergraduate bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree levels.)
Language: All instruction is in English.
Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. or M.D. and at least 5 years teaching experience required. Associate professor rank or above preferred. Retired faculty applications are welcome.
Location: Kathmandu University or School of Management, Kathmandu University
Length of Grant: 5 months to 7 months
Starting Date: August 2009 (5-month grant) or January 2010 (7-month grant). Flexibility regarding start dates will increase chances of selection.

Instruction at the medical school emphasizes problem-based and community-based learning. KU's main campus, where the departments other than business and education are located, is in Dhulikhel, 30 km. (60 minutes' drive) east of central Kathmandu. Grantees who teach there generally live in Kathmandu and commute, although it may also be possible to arrange modest, spartan housing on campus for part- or full-time residence. Grantees are encouraged to bring books and other instructional materials with them. Grantees should also bring their own laptops. The School of Management has Internet-connected PCs for student use in the library.
