Comments: The institute was founded in 2001 and is interdisciplinary in focus, pulling together staff from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and occasionally other interdisciplinary ventures within the wider University such as the Gibson Institute. Disciplines represented in the institute are law, management and economics, philosophy, politics, and sociology, all broadly defined. Applications would be welcome from candidates within these disciplines or cognate areas. There are a number of themes that draw staff together in the institute: (1) ethics and accountability; (2) decision-making and its explanation by complexity theory; (3) interdisciplinary aspects of aging, in particular advocacy; (4) local level governance and policy making. It is not essential that a scholar should be able to fit into these themes centrally but some intellectual contact with one or more of them would be considered advantageous. The candidate will have their own office, PC with Internet connection, access to the resources of Queen's library and information services. Queen's is not normally able to provide accommodation. Candidates should contact the current director of the institute, Prof. Sally Wheeler (s.wheeler@qub.ac.uk), for information on local housing, schools, and academic life in Northern Ireland.
