Grant Activity: Participate in a group seminar on current German society and culture. Participants will examine the political, social and economic institutions of Germany. Each seminar has a specific thematic focus. The program will begin in Berlin and include visits to other cities in Germany.

Specialization(s): German studies or other fields related to the seminar focus.

Language: Depending on the topic the program will be conducted in English or in German.

Additional Qualifications: Scholars from U.S. universities, colleges, and community colleges who hold full-time teaching appointments and meet other academic requirements (Ph.D., Ph.D. candidacy or other equivalent degree or qualifications) are eligible.

Location: Visits to various institutions.

Length of Grant: 2 weeks

Comments: The topic for the 2009 seminar has not yet been determined, but will be announced no later than May 2008. Please consult the CIES Web site at www.cies.org or the German Fulbright Commission Web site at www.fulbright.de for seminar details as they become available. The program is designed for U.S. scholars in German studies and disciplines related to the seminar topic. Applications are welcome from U.S. university, college, and community college scholars. The award includes round-trip air travel; travel within Germany, lodging and partial per diem; and the opportunity to remain in Europe after the seminar to pursue individual research projects at the participants' own costs and responsibility. Grantees' spouses and dependents cannot be accommodated during the seminar. Participants will be asked to submit a brief report and evaluation.
