Fulbright-Saastamoinen Foundation Award in Health Sciences

Starting Date: August/September 2009 or January 2010 is preferred.
Comments: Research pursued by the Faculty of Medicine focuses on chronic and non-communicable diseases in a comprehensive manner, from molecular mechanisms to prevention of disease and treatment. The medical perspective is complemented by strong research related to food and health and food safety. Research priorities are (a) molecular medicine, (b) prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, (c) neurosciences, (d) medical imaging. The Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences has focus areas in environmental health research, including (a) fine and ultrafine particles in urban air (b) nanoparticles (c) bioenergy production (d) indoor air, (e) radiation and electromagnetic fields, (f) drinking water, and (g) persistent organic pollutants. Opportunities exist for extensive collaboration with National Public Health Institute and other institutions of the Kuopio Science Park located at the university campus. Proposals for medical research involving clinical training, patient care or patient contact are not eligible.
