Environment, Health and Sustainability: University of Prince Edward Island Research Chair in Nutrisciences and Health

Grant Activity: Conduct research, develop collaborations, deliver public lectures and occasional guest lectures at the undergraduate or graduate level and contribute to ongoing activities at the University of Prince Edward Island.
Specialization(s): Comparative biomedical nutrisciences, health and wellness, enhancement of natural product bioactive compounds, public policy and bioscience, commercialization of biomedical research, regional biotechnology development
Additional Qualifications: Junior scholars with promising research records as well as established senior scholars are encouraged to apply.
Location: Faculty of Science or Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Prince Edward Island
Length of Grant: 4 months or 9 months
Starting Date: September 2009 for academic-year grants; September 2009 or January 2010 for one-semester grants
Comments: The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is known in Canada and internationally as a research leader and a learner-focused institution and is recognized for its commitment to industry/university and inter-institutional partnerships. UPEI's areas of research focus include comparative biomedical sciences, aquatic health sciences, environmental sciences, natural products chemistry, and human development and health. In addition to academic departments in the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Science, UPEI is home to the Atlantic Network on Bioactive Compounds, the Atlantic Centre for Comparative Biomedical Research, and hosts the Jeanne and J. Louis Levesque Research Professorships in Nutrisciences and Health. UPEI has dedicated a number of Canada Research Chairs to areas related to bioresources and health. The newly opened National Research Council Institute for Nutriscience and Health is located on campus, providing a venue where researchers from NRC, UPEI and Agriculture/Agri-food Canada work collectively to address nutriscience based approaches to health and wellness. Charlottetown, a city of 35,000, is the capital of Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. UPEI is a major contributor to the island's growing bioscience cluster and is nationally ranked among the top research intensive universities in its category.
