American Literature and Culture

Grant Activity: Participate in a team-taught survey course in American literature and culture with plenary lectures (about 150 students) and seminars (20-25 students) during the fall semester (http://students.uib.no/?link_id=295&sublink_id=&toplink_id=15&mode=show_page&content_id=419&modus=vis_emne&kode=ENG122). Conduct seminars at the undergraduate level on topics to be determined depending on the special interests of the grantee during both fall and spring semesters. Participate in tutorials, student advising and grading. Opportunity for research in scholar's area of interest.
Specialization(s): Any area of American literature and culture, or American studies with a specialization that includes literature. The host department is a foreign language department and creative writing is not relevant.
Language: English is sufficient.
Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. with teaching experience.
Location: Department of Foreign Languages, University of Bergen
Length of Grant: 10 months

An office with computer facilities will be provided and the host department will offer some assistance in providing housing. Costs of housing, utilities and food are relatively high in Bergen and Norway. (Approximate cost of housing 10,000-15,000 NOK per month, plus utilities 1,200-1,500 NOK per month. 12/07 exchange rate is U.S.$1=5.43 NOK).
